Bear Hive

7Feb/120

I kind of liked the bullet point style of my last post. Made it easier to organize connected yet very separate thoughts.

-Last time I said I'd write more. I immediately failed at that.

-We've had a flood of new shows offered and booked over the last three months going all the way into late April. With the Sham I usually had to be more aggressive about booking, trying hard to get on good shows. With Bear Hive it's been nice, we've been very lucky and fortunate to make some of the friends we've made over the last few months. Great people really trying to make St. Louis a better, more exciting place.

-(Speaking of,) Eleven Magazine has jumped on board to sponsor our show at Cicero's on March 8th with (it!), The Pass, and Nee. It's going to be a lot of fun. Dance party. We've been promised fog and crazy lighting effects.

-We played a London Calling party a few weekends ago with (it!) at Heavy Anchor. The show was Pirates and Sailors themed so we all decided to dress up as members of Team Zissou.

-It's apparently incredibly difficult to find red knit caps in January. We went to 3 targets, 2 wal-marts, Macy's, Sears, H&M, Urban Outfitters, REI, 4 Walgreens, Dollar Tree, and finally Sport's Authority, where we managed to  find two. Chris had found one at the third Target in the children's section.

-As I was typing this I got distracted and updated the Bio section a bit. I added one of the press pictures to the top. Apparently, and I don't know how to fix this, if you click on the picture it loads HOLY SHIT HUGE and you can see all our nasty pores.

-Have you been to Plush yet? It's pretty cool. We are in the process of booking a show there in April with our new friends Volcanoes.

-We play in two weeks at Firebird with Union Tree Review. I've been looking forward to this show for awhile.

-Matt Strom from UTR is awesome. He contacted us offering to host our site for free. This was absolute perfect timing as we were ready to move our website off of GoDaddy. Not only is Godaddy an awfully ran company, for many, many reasons, their service was terrible too. If you've been here before you probably noticed how slow it loaded. Since Matt took over performance has been fantastic.

-MegaUpload got shut down and with it went the easiest way to download our EP for free. Frustrating. You can still get it through Soundcloud, and we are working on hosting it ourselves.

-Give or take 50 copies, we have just about given out 500 copies of our EP. That's a big number and I don't plan on slowing down. I've got 100 ready to go and will be making another 200 over the next few weeks.

-Recording 2-3 songs in a couple weeks.

-We were contacted by the Arch Rival Roller Derby Girls asking if they could use our music for their championship event at Chaifetz Arena. We immediately said yes, as this is quite possibly the coolest, most ridiculous thing we've ever been a part of. There's no way we're not going.

That's all I've got for now.
